Fire Policy & Fire Risks Statement - Maerdy Holiday Cottages Maerdy Cottages comprises 5 properties. STABLE COTTAGE is a detached stone built 3 bedroomed property with a slate roof and wooden floors throughout. It is centrally heated by a LPG gas fired boiler situated in 1st bedroom. At one end of the open plan living area is an LPG gas fired Rayburn and a log burner at the other end. In addition to the main access door there are 4 further doors along the full length of the property. These provide immediate escape. A door separates the living area from the bedrooms, which can be closed in case of fire. VALLEY VIEW & BARN COTTAGES were until 2000 one farm barn. Built of stone with a slate roof current building regulations were adhered to when converting.
LPG gas supplies cooking & Central Heating in both. Valley View has a log burner. FIRE STATEMENT The Cottage, Barn & Stable have land line BT telephones. There are exterior mains water taps on the chimney wall of The Farmhouse, by the main entrance of The Stables & by the boiler room between The Barn & Valley View. Smoke detectors are situated at strategic positions in all properties. Fire extinguishers are by the fires & log burners & a fire blanket by all cookers. All are checked
regularly. The boilers are serviced annually, the fire logs are dried & appropriately
sized for safe burning & there is a cut off control of gas to the Rayburn in the Stable.
All chimneys are cleaned annually. These old properties are particularly vulnerable. Any fire would spread quickly. Every Avoid heating oil for chip making, choose oven-cooked chips as an alternative.
Insure that the fires are safe prior to retiring or leaving the properties. Use guards
where provided, close log burners & let the logs burn down in the fire baskets.
Candles provide a relaxing ambience but must be positioned centrally away from wall
shelves. Caution must be taken with candles particularly with children.
